Hello everyone, Doug Casady here. I want to welcome you to My Bricks and Stones.com blog. I have been a Brick and Stone Mason since 1971. Due to injuries I am learning new skills that involve internet marketing, making money online and working online.
I’ve created this site to share with you a bit of experience, strength and hope to any one who might be in need of such things. The transition to a new job at my age is quite exciting!
I have been a part of a community of wonderful down-to-earth people all of my life. I am fortunate and blessed to be able to say that with a sense of pride. If I could start over young again and choose an occupation I would be a Mason again without any hesitation!
I truly love being a Brick and Stone Mason. My oldest daughter (who will be 39 years old this year!) said to me when she was about fifteen… “Dad, you are the only adult I know that really loves his work.” Now that kinda says it all!
The biggest challenges I have faced in my career as a Mason has been injuries. I have worked long hours and I have chosen to do most of the work myself. The hands on part of Masonry work is so rewarding it’s a hard thing to explain to people unless they are a part of a Trade themselves.
I have had numerous surgeries dating back to 1986 that have had more than one Doctor advise me to quit my Trade. I’m a bit hard headed to say the least, but quitting something you have a passion for is not easy. If you have been blessed like I have, you know exactly what I am talking about.
On June 24, 2009 I fell off of a ladder on the job site. I tore all but one muscle in my left shoulder and damaged my hamstring on my left leg and also damaged my right knee. The day I fell I sat down on the floor of the house and thought to myself…”this is it…this is a bad one!” This was the eighth of many injuries I have had in the past 23 years that have required surgery.
I feel so fortunate to be able to still have my health. The construction industry does get into your blood so to speak, but there are many challenges that we Tradesmen all share. The dangers of injury are obvious. We also must contend with the weather all of the time, which also affects our income.
I am so thankful to have this opportunity to share with others the many successes I have had over the years. Working online is certainly something I never would have considered doing prior to this injury. But I love learning new things!
If I can share some of my accomplishments with some of the younger people to encourage them to find what they are passionate about to earn a living this blog will be the achievement of my life!
I will share with you my experiences as I learn how to post them to my site. This will be an ongoing process and I would love to share it with you! At my age this will be a history class of many of my masonry projects I have completed over the years! Post any comments you have on my site… I would be honored to read your feedback!
Remember, this site is a work in progress just like me, so please enjoy it as often as you care to. I am really enjoying learning new skills on the computer. If you would like to visit my first site CLICK HERE. This will give you a glimpse of other things I have going on these days.
Best wishes to you,
Doug Casady
